Turntable

Date

November 2022

Project type

Design and Manufacturing

What does it mean to create intentional space? I bought a record player four years ago and never had a proper space for it. No table that I placed it on was designed for that use and as a result, I was not able to use my record player as effectively. So I set out to create the perfect place for my turntable; a clean piece of furniture that could also store my small record collection.

I began by sketching up a design and working out the dimensions and necessary materials to create the table. Initially, I wanted to limit the amount of metal cutting I would need to do by bending one sheet to create the body of the table.  I found that bending one sheet would not be possible with the machinery I had access to, so I sketched up a new version of my design.

After refining and ideating on those sketches, I moved to CAD where I modeled the whole structure with the proper fixtures and dimensions. I started with a basic square structure and adjusted the design from there!

I used metal bending, riveting, wood cutting, and milling to create the parts and assemble them. Click on the images below to learn more about the process!
